Bukit Tabur – Hiking Adventure
Degree of difficulty : 2/10
½ day trip
The day started very early in the morning. All the participants are suppose to gather at the Caltex of Taman Melawati at 5.50am. The name itself states very clear that it is a hill (bukit), so it is not very high in altitude. That’s why our captain rate it 2/10 for the level of difficulties. Driving along the KESAS Highway towards Genting on the right hand side after the Zoo Negara, there is a row of rocky hills on the background and natural green forest lying on the surface of those hills is called Bukit Tabur.
We are unlucky because a landslide is blocking our road to the foot of the hill. The early breeze and darkness is not going to stop the nine of us for conquering the hill as we trekked through the path that is full of rocks cause by the landslide. It took us 20 minutes to reach the entrance of Bukit Tabur.
The path is narrow but the tropical forest terrain always looks refreshing and full of life. Looks pretty much the same for me. Within couple minutes of hiking, flashlight is not needed because the day is almost dawn. At the first pit stop we can see a very unique shape of a hilltop just across the Ulu Klang Gates Dam. The damn is visible too. We stayed there for a coffee break and taking photographs. Soon, the sun came out. We stayed there for quite sometime, another group of 22 people came and bypass us. After a short period of time, we started to move our legs and hike all the way up.
The upper half of the hill is very rocky and we started to use our hands for better grip. The path is not very steep so we didn’t take much break. There are a lot of loose rocks along our path and big rocks that need us to climb. After some extreme rock climbing on certain part of the rocks, we can feel the extra strong wind blowing through. The temperature is not very low, but just nice. It took us approximately 2++ hours to conquer several parts of the major peaks. All the peaks are made of large a rock, that’s why we need ropes to help us through. Some part is quite dangerous though.
Going down through the other side is challenging as well. Path full of sands and dried leaves can be slippery. One must be very careful and slow while going down. After this experience I would give it a 3/10 for level of difficulties. The challenging part of this trip is the rock climbing. Overall it is 40% Rock |
